Friday Reads: The Clockmaker's Daughter

The Clockmaker's Daughter by Kate Morton

The Clockmaker's Daughter is the latest release by bestselling author Kate Morton. This novel about time and timelessness tells the story of Birdie Bell and the people who have passed through enchanting Birchwood Manor on the banks of the Upper Thames. In the summer of 1862, the house was the scene of a fatal shooting and a family heirloom went missing.

The author notes that her book was inspired by art and artists, plus a number of great British museums including the Royal Observatory Greenwich, home of Greenwich Mean Time and the Prime Meridian.

I've come to love this house on the Thames, its fragrant gardens and tranquil location on the riverbank. And I'm eager to discover how the interwoven stories come together and what really happened at Birchwood Manor on that fateful summer day.

Morton's debut novel, The House at Riverton, has also found a home on my bookshelf. It's described as "perfect for fans of Downton Abbey".
