Europe by Colour: White

Today's post in a series on my favourite travel photos by colour features white. White is actually the absence of colour but the ribs in the fan-vaulted ceiling in the gothic chapel at the Musée Cluny, the Museum of the Middle Ages in Paris, make up for the lack of pigment with an intricate pattern.

This modern piece by French sculptor ERICKH was on display in the town of Saint Jean Cap Ferrat last summer. The white Carrara marble really pops against the blue skies so frequently enjoyed along the sunny French Riviera.

Street performers frequent the pedestrian lanes of the historic centre of Florence. This one had me do a double take. Life imitating art?

There were no celebrity sightings on the Isle of Capri but these delicate white roses were found in bloom near the luxurious Grand Hotel Quisisana.

The gulls in the Principality of Monaco were very friendly and not at all afraid to approach you. This one was happy to pose for a photo. I think I got his best side.

The photo blogging challenge Capture the Colour, which was my inspiration for these posts, made use of only five colours but I think I'll keep going. Still to come: pink, purple, orange and black.
