Friday Reads: A Year at Hotel Gondola

A Year at Hotel Gondola by Nicky Pellegrino

Kat has never wanted to live a quiet life. She's an adventurer, a food writer who travels the world visiting far-flung places and eating unusual things. Now she is about to embark on her biggest adventure yet – a relationship.

As with previous novels by Nicky Pellegrino, A Year at Hotel Gondola is a celebration of Italy, its culture and cuisine, but this time set in the romantic city of Venice. The beautiful cover art incorporates a classic view of the Grand Canal as seen from the Ponte dell'Accademia, the Accademia Bridge.

Kat plans to spend a year in Venice helping the man she's fallen in love with run his guesthouse, the Hotel Gondola. She'll also write a book about her adventures and the foods she discovers along the way. The author provides lush descriptions of an ancient city composed of 118 islands and a unique cuisine tied so closely to the sea, with several recipes included.

I've read several of Pellegrino's book and enjoyed them all. Her latest novel, A Dream of Italy, was released last month in Australia and New Zealand, and will debut in the UK on August 8th.

And this is exciting news: she's also planning a small group tour of Italy in 2020 so that guests can experience some of the flavours and locations in her novels!
