Souvenir Birds

I've never been much of a collector. And as I get older, I'm much more into downsizing. The one exception is the diverse flock of birds that has come to roost in my living room and it gets larger each time I travel. I never set out to create this avian collection but after a few years, I began to notice a pattern in my choice of souvenir.

My collection got started with a piece of pottery bought in Mexico back in the 1970's.

Two additions followed a trip to Scandinavia in the 80's: a wooden bird from Finland and a smaller crystal one from Sweden.

In the 90's I added this piece from the west coast of Canada to my growing collection.

More recently, this little chicken followed me home from the medieval town of Aigues-Mortes in southern France.

I searched the island of Capri for a colourful representative from the country of Italy.

And while touring England I captured this little fellow in the town of St. Mawes on the rugged coast of Cornwall.
