Bridget Jones's London

Are you a fan of the Bridget Jones novels by Helen Fielding or the movies starring Renée Zellweger? If so, you’re probably looking forward to the latest film in the franchise, Bridget Jones’s Baby, which opens in North American theatres on Friday. I’m taking a slight detour from my planned posts to share some photos of London filming locations from the first two movies, Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001) and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004).

Our heroine, Bridget Jones, lives on the south bank of the River Thames in the London borough of Southwark. Exterior shots of her flat take place at The Globe Tavern, at 8 Bedale Street near Borough Market.

In both movies Bridget is frequently seen walking across Tower Bridge.

I think she’d also enjoy a pedal bus outing with her mates like these young women (but maybe not while pregnant).

In Bridget Jones’s Diary, Bridget botches her first TV assignment at the Royal Courts of Justice – until charming barrister Mark Darcy (played by Colin Firth) comes to her rescue by arranging an exclusive interview with his client.

Mr. Darcy has a complicated history with another of Bridget’s suitors, the handsome scoundrel Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant). In the sequel, the men come to blows in a fistfight in a fountain that was filmed at Hyde Park’s Italian Gardens.

I can’t wait to see which new filming locations will appear in Bridget Jones’s Baby. Renée Zellweger and Colin Firth will both reprise their roles in the film but Hugh Grant, sadly, will not. Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey will instead co-star as Bridget’s new love interest.
