One of the most scenic spots on the island of Capri is a botanical garden overlooking the sea, the Gardens of Augustus. Lush bougainvillea vines compete with views of the Faraglioni Rocks, making this a wonderful spot to sit and enjoy the beauty of nature. Originally this public park belonged to the villa of German industrialist Friedrich Alfred Krupp and was known as Krupp Gardens.

Krupp also built a spectacular switchback
pathway, Via Krupp, that winds down the steep hillside to
Marina Piccolo where he moored his yacht. The footpath was closed for thirty
years following a landslide but it reopened in 2008 after major reconstruction.

My daughter and I posed for some photos at the
edge of the cliff where our hair got caught in an updraft. And by the time we
left Krupp’s gardens we were both totally enchanted by the island of Capri.
